VISUAL QUALITY CHECKS FOR PACKAGING LINES

Vision Inspection Systems

Explore ZONESUN vision inspection solutions for defined checks on codes, labels and packaging appearance. Match cameras, lighting and product handling to your inspection targets and line speed, with response and integration options assessed for your bottling or packaging workflow.

Code & Print Inspection

Assess code presence, legibility or reading requirements with suitable imaging and software.

Label & Packaging Checks

Define visible features such as label presence, position or specified appearance defects.

Cameras & Lighting

Match image coverage, resolution and illumination to the actual product and inspection area.

Line Integration & Response

Review product orientation, triggering and available alarm or reject options.

DEFINE THE INSPECTION TASK

Match Vision Inspection to Your Packaging Checks

Start with a specific visible feature and a clearly defined acceptance rule.

Code Presence & Print Quality

Assess missing, incomplete or visibly unclear printed information against agreed sample criteria.

Text & Code Reading

Where supported, assess character recognition, expected-text comparison or barcode reading with suitable software.

Label Presence & Position

Evaluate missing labels, position or skew within defined tolerances and camera coverage.

Cap & Component Presence

Check visible closure or component features. Confirm that the relevant area is exposed to the camera.

Packaging Appearance

Assess specified visible defects such as damage or incorrect features using representative samples.

Product Orientation & Matching

Review orientation or visible product differences where the selected imaging and software can distinguish them.

Task-specific configuration: These are application assessment areas, not functions included in every system. Confirm inspection scope, viewing coverage and acceptance criteria before selecting equipment.

CAMERAS, LIGHTING & PRODUCT PRESENTATION

Build an Image That Supports the Inspection

Image quality and consistent product presentation determine what can be evaluated reliably.

Camera & Lens Selection

Match resolution, field of view and working distance to the smallest feature and required coverage.

Lighting & Surface Response

Assess illumination for the actual material, color and finish, including reflections or transparency.

Product Position & Coverage

Review orientation, motion and viewing angles. Multiple views may require additional cameras or product handling.

FROM IMAGE CAPTURE TO INSPECTION RESPONSE

How Vision Inspection Fits Your Line

Coordinate product presentation, image capture and the response to each inspection result.

  1. 01

    Present & Trigger

Position the product and trigger image capture at the required point in the production cycle.

  2. 02

    Capture the Image

Use the configured cameras and lighting to reveal the specified inspection features.

  3. 03

    Evaluate the Result

Apply the selected checks and compare visible features with defined acceptance criteria.

  4. 04

    Respond & Transfer

Where configured, issue an alarm or reject signal and transfer accepted products downstream.

Station placement: Inspect after the feature is created, such as after coding, labeling or cap application. Keep the target visible and allow sufficient time for inspection and any configured rejection.

KEY SELECTION POINTS

What to Provide Before Choosing a Vision System

Share these six details to define a practical inspection configuration.

Inspection Targets & Limits

List each defect or feature to check, its location and the acceptable tolerance or expected content.

Accepted & Defective Samples

Provide representative good products, defect examples and normal variation in print, packaging and appearance.

Product Dimensions & Surface

Share dimensions, material, colors, transparency, reflectivity and the accessible inspection areas.

Output & Product Movement

Specify products per minute, conveyor speed, spacing and whether inspection occurs during motion or a stop.

Decision & Response Requirements

Define alarm or rejection behavior and acceptable false-reject and missed-defect criteria for evaluation.

Interfaces & Records

Specify required triggers, control signals, image storage, result records or data connections where supported.

CUSTOMIZED BOTTLING & PACKAGING LINES

Configure Inspection Around Your Production Workflow

ZONESUN AutoPack focuses on automated bottling lines and customized solutions. Vision inspection options are assessed around the task, selected equipment and actual product flow.

Camera Mounting & Access

Review viewing angles, available space and adjustment access without obstructing product movement.

Lighting & Enclosures

Assess light positioning and any shielding needed to reduce changing ambient light or reflections.

Product Handling & Triggering

Plan guides, orientation, sensing and timing for repeatable image capture.

Reject Tracking & Collection

Assess product tracking, reject timing and collection arrangements where supported by the configuration.

Recipes & Data Options

Confirm supported product settings, result records, image retention and communication functions.

Sample Trials & Changeovers

Evaluate representative products and defects at intended operating conditions, including format changes.

VISION INSPECTION FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can one vision system detect every packaging defect?
No. Detection depends on the visible feature, image quality, coverage and configured software. Define specific checks and evaluate representative defects and normal product variation.
2. Does checking code presence also verify the printed text?
No. Presence checks, character recognition and comparison with expected content are different tasks. Specify whether you need to detect a mark, read it or verify its content.
3. Can it inspect the entire surface of a round bottle?
A single view may not cover the full circumference. Additional cameras or controlled product rotation may be needed. Coverage and handling must be assessed for the actual bottle and line speed.
4. Can it confirm cap tightness or seal integrity from an image?
An image may check visible cap position or appearance, but it does not directly measure torque or prove leak-tightness. These requirements need an appropriate measurement or testing method.
5. Are automatic rejection and image storage included?
This varies by equipment and quotation. Confirm reject hardware, product tracking, result records, image storage and communication options for the selected configuration.
6. How should inspection performance be evaluated?
Test representative accepted products, defect samples and normal variation at the intended speed and imaging conditions. Agree on inspection limits and assess false rejects and missed defects before confirming the setup.
7. What information is needed for a recommendation?
Provide accepted and defective samples, inspection targets, product dimensions, materials and required output. Include code or artwork examples, response requirements and the existing line layout.
